Preparing the Way
Following God's Path
The story in Matthew moves rather quickly, as do our lives as we move from the season of Advent and Christmas day back into the regular business of our normal daily schedules. As we move forward into the new year, it is important to remember God’s sovereignty at work in them. This Sunday we consider God’s sovereignty on display as instructions to safety are provided for Joseph, Mary, and Jesus through God’s action, and how God’s sovereignty plays a role in our lives.
Music: "In the Bleak Midwinter" arr. by Robert Lau
As we move to the First Sunday of Christmas in the church calendar, the story of Jesus’ birth moves quickly in the book of Matthew. The birth story found in chapter 1 moves to the visit of the Magi, and in the beginning of chapter 2, we also find the threat of danger to Jesus’ young life by King Herod. This threat required action and a path to safety for Joseph, Mary, and Jesus.
