Serve Our Community
First Pres Maumee's goal is to ensure that every child in Maumee City Schools has the opportunity to play a musical instrument. We work closely with music teachers Eric Boswell and Wasim Hawary to provide instruments for both the band and the orchestra. In 2015, we held the first instrument drive, asking community members to donate used instruments. Since then, 25 used and refurbished instruments have been donated to students who are not able to afford the rental of an instrument, allowing them to join the band or orchestra. In addition, we have provided nearly $10,000 toward the purchase of new instruments for both the middle school and high school band and orchestra of Maumee City Schools.
Love and Luggage
Love and Luggage was started by Sarah and Jim Otis out of their own experiences with adopting their daughter at 9 years old. This organization supports young men and women who have emancipated from the foster care system and are at risk, with very little emotional or financial support to begin their adult life well. Love and Luggage provides students leaving the foster care system, luggage filled with hygiene and household items, a Visa gift card, Bible, and other recommendations of resources for support. Love and Luggage also provides bi-monthly opportunities for these young adults to connect with community members who can provide additional resources and encouragement. First Presbyterian Church hosts these bi-monthly dinners, houses the Love and Luggage pantry and promotes the donations for the luggage.

Maumee City Schools
First Pres Maumee has committed to give a significant financial contribution, beginning in 2019 for the next 10 years, to support new school district initiatives that are aligned with both the district's strategic plan and the church's mission. A few of the programs we partner with Maumee City Schools on include Learning to Serve, Young Life, Read and Relate, and the Instrument Bank, among others.
First Pres Maumee has donated winter coats for students, helped teachers set up their classrooms during back-to-school time, provided school supplies, and help fund and supply leadership for the Feed My Starving Children meal pack held every two years at Wayne Trail Elementary School.
We're so proud to partner with Community Learning Centers and Maumee City Schools to bring the community of Maumee a new after school program for students K-3, designed to raise literacy levels, improve core academic performance, strengthen social relationships, and provide unique enrichment opportunities.
As a church, we provide considerable financial support along with volunteers from our church and community. We have pledged to donate a signifcant amount over the course of 10 years to this influential program. Supporting this program means a lot to us, not only in our continued partnership with Maumee City Schools and our new partnership with Community Learning Centers, but to provide much needed support to children within our community. As we come together with our mission partners, we hope to improve children’s reading and early literacy achievement scores, improve student’s growth mindset, and provide support to families and children within our community.
Mosaic Ministries seeks to transform South Toledo through education, the power of the Gospel, and sustainable community development. The members of First Pres Maumee partner with Mosaic Ministries in many ways, including purchasing supplies, cooking and serving meals, offering scholarship funds, including children from Mosaic Ministries in our yearly VBS, and buying groceries for families at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. We also recently worked together as a congregation, engaging the community, to raise significant contributions for Mosaic Ministries and their Lodge Building Project, which is enabling them to house a school and other important outreach ministries.
Meal Service: Each month, our church members serve dinner at Mosaic Ministries. Our student ministry serves a meal quarterly on the second Sunday of the month. The adults of the church serve a meal on the first Tuesday of the other months. Following is the upcoming serving schedule for 2022:
Students - Aug. 14, Nov. 13
Adults - July 5, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Dec. 6

Beauty Project -a ministry to adolescent girls to help them see their beauty in Christ as his daughter.
Baby University: We provide children's books to parents and guardians upon graduation from the Baby University program. Every year, we hold a book drive to collect monetary and book donations to give to Baby U. They are always in need of volunteers as well.

Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo
We help provide material needs and volunteer support to the Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo. This ministry "offers compassionate and professional team work to create a safe, confidential place for women to be educated about their pregnancy options." Read and Relate
We are strategically investing in Wayne Trail Elementary School, a public school which is only 1.2 miles away from our church. Our key project, Read and Relate, matches volunteers from the church to work one-on-one with a 4th- or 5th-grade student on a weekly basis during their lunch hour. Through this program, we hope to build confidence, skill, and relationship. Contact the church office to learn more.
Water for Ishmael
First Pres Maumee sponsors Young Life at Maumee High School. Young Life is a ministry that meets students right where they are and lets them know there is a community that cares about them. Just one example of a way Young Life cares for the Maumee City Schools community is by providing donuts to students and staff each month. In addition, Young Life volunteers have helped chaperone student dances and served as volunteer coaches for athletic teams.
